Giving Back

As much as I absolutely adore gifting local products to my friends and family, I think it is equally important to share the love with those most in need. Ottawa has plenty of registered charities and you can easily give back by donating. To find more information on charities in Ottawa, check out: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/explore/charities/city/ottawa/

I would like to highlight a few charities that I have encountered over the years and note that these are not inclusive of the options out there.

CHEO Foundation

For over 10 years now, I have volunteered at the CHEO telethon answering phone calls to take donations. CHEO is one of the nearest and dearest charities to my family, and we continue to support everything that they do. CHEO helped to support me during my youth and I always felt at home whenever I stepped into the hospital. For more information, please visit their website: https://cheofoundation.com/

Ottawa Food Bank

Cornerstone Housing for Women

Cornertstone Housing for Women provides emergency shelter and safe affordable permanent housing for women in Ottawa. You can donate or you can volunteer! For more information, please visit their website: https://www.cornerstonewomen.ca/index.php

Mealshare

I love the concept of Mealshare, it's a fantastic way to give back while enjoying food. Mealshare partners with restaurants, and places their logo next to a few menu items. When a customer orders a ‘Mealshare Item’, they get their meal. And, Mealshare also provides one simple, healthy meal to a youth in need! Buy one, give one – it’s that simple! To give back this holiday season, you can locate one of the mealshare partners in town, and order the item on the menu that corresponds to the program! For more information, please visit their website: https://mealshare.ca/en/

Bundle of Bright

A Bundle of Bright print - on my office wall

All proceeds from items sold by Bundle of Bright are donated to Camp Polaris, a supportive family autism retreat. Camp Polaris is funding and working to create barrier-free recreational programming for autistic children and their families, centered around diversity, inclusion and support.
